Untangling Patience

My sweety was knitting something the other day. She had these five balls of yarn going at once and I was like, “Whoa, that’s a lotta colors!” Well, I said it in my head. As she kept going, one line would cross over another, which would cross over another. It wasn’t long before this huge tangle ensued. I’m talking a mega-knot involving five different lengths of yarn. It was impressive.

So my darling, who has the patience to knit, starts picking at the tangle. Two minutes later I hear this growl of frustration and I know it’s time for me to intervene. I’m the opposite—I have the patience to untangle huge knots, but not to knit. For the next 10 minutes I’m unraveling this thing, picking up balls of yarn, pushing them through loops, pulling them out. It’s kind of a fun challenge, not unlike assembling furniture, heehee.

Funny how people are patient with some things and not others. I would imagine that if I were to sit down and learn how to knit I might actually like it. I mean, it’s sufficiently fiddly enough I just might take to it. I like fiddling with things, building things. But for some reason… I don’t know, knitting just never appealed to me. You know what would interest me? Welding. That seems really cool to me. I wonder if it’s because I’ve watched too many episodes of American Chopper? Now there’s a bunch of talented metal workers!

Or maybe I just like any excuse to wear odd head gear.
