I'm likeable dammit!

Something’s got me worked up into a lather, and it’s not my shampoo. Most of you are probably familiar with Blog Explosion. For those of you who aren’t, it’s a way to get your blog circulated amongst other bloggers.  The whole “rent my blog” thing is a part of that. Another feature they have on their website is “Battle of the Blogs”. It’s a fun little thing where you can bet credits and go head to head with another blog. People vote on which they think is better.

“Better” I’ve found is a highly subjective term. I’ve been doing okay, but have been noticing a trend. If I participate during the day, I usually lose. If I participate at night, I usually win. My explanation for this is you have different audiences. At night the professional folks have come home from work, the freaks and geeks come out to play, and the vampires roam freely. During the day, however, the vast majority of voters are moms whose kids are at school.

Now, the moms who comment on my blog are huge exceptions to what I’m about to say, so don’t take offense. The majority of these other parental figures are conservative, narrow-minded asses who regularly shit sticks. They’ll switch to shitting bricks if they enounter anything “those gays” are trying to do.

My very first battle I was against a person who was almost as interesting as me (but not quite, hehee). It was at night and I won. I was proud. The next day I went up against this total more-boring-than-drying-paint blog that was so dull I was certain I would win. I lost, and it was during the day. I was stunned. Here’s an even better example. I went against one blog and won. Later that week I went against the same blog again. I lost. The only difference? Time of day. Daytime voters are judgemental and full of hate. I doubt they read a single word. They see my rainbow, see the word “lesbian” in the title, and automatically vote for the other guy. It makes me mad!

Most of you are probably asking yourself, “Well why do you subject yourself to it then? We love you, isn’t that all that matters?” Yes, you are absolutely correct. Battle of the Blogs is nothing but a big ol’ popularity contest. But we all have our issues. I’m working through mine. Throughout my pre-college days I never had a chance with the popularity contests. I always felt like the loser. Those kinds of feelings have a nasty way of staying with you.

Anyway, I already feel better knowing that I can now hold my own in popularity contests. It’s a stupid ego thing, I know. I’m still me no matter what other people think. But let me tell you those scars of resentment formed so early in life are bitch to get rid of.
