Experimenting with Resetting the Clock

So I guess in the comments of the previous post we agreed that I would be some kind of a guinea pig for the research I dug up on resetting your internal body clock to adjust for Daylight Savings. I know it’s only an hour, but damn, that one hour can really throw you off. Two factors were identified in helping to do this magical clock setting—morning sunlight and exercise.

The sunlight I can do nothing about. It’s rainy out, and even if it were 80 degrees I just don’t have a spare hour in the morning to sit around outside sunning myself. There’s this thing I like to call “employment” to deal with. And by the time the weekend comes around again I should be adjusted. At least I hope so.

So that leaves exercise. That I can control. I went to the parking garage, put my walking shoes on and started going up and down various ramps, exploring the places I never drive to and encountering dead ends I never knew existed. This was fine until I passed by this cloud of poisonous fumes. Two of them actually. One smelled like paint, the other was a smoker. To those of you blog visitors who smoke, I like you anyway, you have good taste in blogs and I find most of you to be witty friends. But you may want to skip the next paragraph.

It’s hard to escape these smelly billows of cigarette smoke. I have enough of a hard time breathing normally as it is. Laughing too hard will make me wheeze for cryin’ out loud, so I avoid smokers when I can by walking a wide berth around them. But sometimes wide just isn’t wide enough. As I sputter and cough my way down the walkway I can’t help but wish they’d just lock themselves in their cars and marinate themselves in their own smoke. It’s a nasty, nasty habit. My dad smoked himself into his grave. I will never understand it, ever.

After encountering these breathing impediments, I decided to brave the drizzle and go walk out there. I’d rather be wet with clean air. 20 minutes later I got a nice even film of water on my jacket and decided to head back inside. Do I feel more awake? No. Maybe the effects aren’t apparent until the following morning? Maybe 20 minutes wasn’t enough? Maybe I should buy a new internal clock. You think Timex makes those?
