I am impressed. I too am so saddened by the treatment of these animals. I have not yet been able to bring myself to go vegetarian. The desire is there - I hope the action is to follow.
Avi, Tofurkey is supposed to be a vegan item, and the list of ingredients seems to validate this. Veggie stock is used instead of chicken broth. Not even egg is in there.
Weese, it is a pretty big change in diet to cut out meat. Perhaps you can at least investigate which farms treat their animals humanely, like places that have free-range chicken. You can also start like I did at first by cutting out red meat for a while.
I was veg for 11 years and I never ate tofurkey. I don’t know why. It just repulsed me.
I’d rather say it, hehe.
It is a fun word to say though...tofurkey.
I’ve never even seen it, but I think I’ll pass, based on your description. But hey you have a whole year to find something you can substitute in it’s place. Create a whole new tradition!
Christie, you’re not missing much! I think the stuff is meant to help some people not miss meat so much. I personally think it only makes things worse, hehe.
Weekends off, I agree. Hopefully we’ll be much better and more creative at making balanced meat-free meals.
You still alive. Love reading your blog. Hope to see you back soon
Heh, thanks Audi. Yes I’m still alive. I used to blog addictively, mostly because I was dissatisfied with my job and at the time the house payments were making me very unhappy. It’s a great outlet and diversion. But now that everything has righted itself (better job and no more house) I don’t feel the need to blog so much anymore. But thanks for the reminder, I think I might have neglected my blog a wee bit too long!
Most of that stuff is bad, but some of the crumbles that are like ground beef are good with seasoning, and veggie corndogs are awesome.
Stuffing usually has chicken broth in it, so you have to watch out for that, along with many types of soups - they use chicken stock instead of vegetable stock.
Did you get to eat pie? Because a bad turkey or tofurkey can be redeemed by pie.
