I love flowers, you should post a pic of her hard work, I’d love to see them. I know I’ve plastered my patio pots all over and entry or two.
My Grandma used to make a creamy Dandelion Soup from flowers and it was really good, but I know she washed them and I would definatly not just shake them off! ICK!
I’d be happy to get the recipe for you...if you wanna give it a try. It’s all from scratch so it’s not a quick fix.
Yeah I can’t get my head around the eating flowers thing. <i>"Wouldnât it be like eating an air freshner?"</i> is the sort of thing that crosses my mind too.
I much prefer flowers to look at. Ya know, I might even go treat myself to a bunch tomorrow, something to brighten up the living room again.
Would love to see a picture of the garden, it sounds lovely!
Eating flowers just doesn’t sound good to me. Have you ever been stuck in line behind an old woman with bright red lipstick and so much perfume you can taste it? I imagine that’s what eating flowers would taste like.
Yes, post a picture!
Funny you posted this today. Just over lunch I was eating with some of the girls in our mapping department and they were oohing and aahhing over this gardening magazine and reading recipes to each other. Thing is each recipe contained...lavender. I’ve heard of garishing with flowers and dandelion in some foods (like the soup mentioned above by Diane) but lavender?
eating flowers???!! Im not so sure about that one. think i’ll pass
I tasted some fancy shmancy chocolate recently that was made with lavender, it was really… bad.
my grandmother also ate dandelions. I do not do this because mine are covering in Scott’s lawn products. I would imagine this affects the flavor
Yes, you should take a picture a post it. Flowers in their natural environment. Which is anywhere but near my food!
People use flour a lot in cooking...I recommend spell check.
*snickers*
Oh ha ha Mike. *thwap* (again)
Diane, I don’t know if I could convince Mar to leave the weeds growing so we can have Dandelion Soup, hehe.
Sarah, Heather and Suzanne, I have photos! I took them this morning and will be posting them momentarily.
Actually, the reason that you don’t want to run the blossoms under water is that it bruise the petals. And mostly putting flowers in food is all about appearance.
Some flowers that you can use are marigolds which are quite spicy; squash blossom (stuff with chive cream cheese, batter & fry...so good); pansies which are so pretty on cakes and in salads; and flower infused sugars are nice in teas, cakes, etc.
I’m such a Martha, it’s sick.

Wow, you actually sound like you know what you’re talking about! Unlike me, heh.
I was looking on RedEnvelope for a gift for my mom and stumbled across a “Edible Flower Garden”. I thought it was weird too but interesting.
Since it takes me getting to be the size of a mini cooper to eat vegetables, I don’t think flowers will be something I will ever like to eat.
Uhhh yeah I’ve heard that flowers are good in salads and such, but I dunno… something about it just doesn’t seem right to me. I’d rather look at my plants and flowers...the cats do enough eating of my plants (the bastards).
