Thanks Little Lesbian, someone else recommended that show to me, so I checked it out. For some reason I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. It wasn’t bad, but… I don’t know… maybe I just don’t like westerns in space, heh. I guess the characters didn’t really grab me. I do appreciate your input though!
Fireflyyyyy. Joss Whedon is the king of witty banter. Srsly.
Have you tried Bones? Not really witty banter, but...clever dialogue.
We watched the pilot for Bones and couldn’t really get into it. Did it get better? A lot of shows improve greatly over time. I might have to give it another chance.
You need to look up comedies from the 1930’s and -40’s.
The Thin Man (series)
The Man who Came to Dinner
Arsenic and Old Lace
It Happened One Night
Gilmore Girls and Moonlighting.
Bobolink, I hate to be a snob, but I prefer my shows to be in color.
Avi, Moonlighting was pretty good, I liked that show. Gilmore Girls… really? I don’t really know much about it. It always sounded like one of those teen shows like Dawson’s Creek or The OC. I’ll have to check it out.
It’s not like those shows at all. It’s really, really smartly written.
Give the first episode a chance, and if you don’t like it, it’s a lost cause.
Arrested Development is brilliant. I also enjoyed bobolink’s “thinking outside the box” with some excellent suggestions, particularly The Man Who Came To Dinner. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with black and white…
P.S. since the word dialogue is of greek origin, with a a suffix deriving from the Greek “logos”, it is more likely that is was spelled with a “ue” on the end when is first entered the English language (although this is not a hard and fast rule, it is generally true e.g. analogue and dualogue).
What I find interesting is that all of these examples are now more usually spelled without the last two letters. This is mainly due to the American butchering of the English language that has happened because you people are lazy!
But seriously… Arrested Development.
Oh I wish I had a suggestion but I will be back to see others, I’m looking for something new!
And I LOVE Grey’s!
If you want to watch smart sitcoms, Fraiser is a good choice. I also like The Simpsons, because it is a parody on today society, especially American society. I also watch House, Grey´s Anatomy and Bones, but House and Bones seem as too big fiction to me. I think, it is because I like to watch Forensic files and Doctor G on Discovery, where are real crimes and real medical cases
Avi, I’ll probably check out the first episode. I like smartly written shows.
Dave, there wouldn’t need to be any butchering done to the language if there weren’t so many ridiculously useless instances of unnecessary extra letters. I personally blame it on the French, who are experts at poofy pretentious word spellings. That’s why I like Spanish. Everything is nice and phonetic.
Di, yeah, we need something to tide us over until ANTM starts again in the fall.
Susan, I watched Dr. G for a while. It was interesting, but got to be depressing after awhile because you know these are all real cases. I can only take so many reminders that there’s a large population of scumbags out there.
GDG, I have to admit I am inclined to agree with you on the French/Spanish point there. I am just really anal about people speaking there own language properly. I imagine everyone else finds this incredibly annoying but what can you do?
the first few seasons of Gilmore girls have some of the best wit I’ve heard in this country.
Have you ever watched “Firefly?” It was on Fox a couple years ago, but only for one season. Now it’s on reruns on Sci Fi sometimes. It’s amazing! If you haven’t seen it, the best way to describe it is as a western set in space. Sounds really weird, I know, but it’s amazing. You kind of forget that it’s a sci fi thing because it’s more about the people and their stuff, but the dialog(ue) is pretty stellar. And it’s funny and engaging and you really end up caring about the characters. (If you have seen it, then you pbb already have your own opinion, haha, but that’s mine). Enjoy!!
