I don’t understand the obsession with makeup, especially at the gym.

Good point! ESPECIALLY at the gym makeup is unecessary!

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.06.2007 | 12:57 PM

I’ve never understood trying to look good for the gym because you only get sweaty and stinky anyway. Putting on makeup will guarantee you’ll only look WORSE when it’s over because the makeup will sweat down your face.

Crimony. Stop talking about me! I can’t help it that my blush went on a little thick today. Sheesh.

Kentucky Girl | 06.06.2007 | 8:41 PM

Yeah, I totally don’t get the whole make-up while working out thing. I especially don’t get women who play hockey in full make-up! I mean, your face is covered by a metal cage, anyway, but that’s beside the point.

Barb | 06.06.2007 | 9:17 PM

make-up? gym? doesn’t make sense to me. although i do need to apply make up on my face since i need to cover my acne. but still, in the gym? nah.

queertessential | 06.06.2007 | 10:04 PM

The only reason makeup in the gym might make sense is if the place is actually a meat market and you’re looking to hook up. Still, even if this were the case, she was not going to pick anyone up looking like that!

Most gyms, particularly Bally’s, strike me as meat markets. I can’t get over what some of these people wear (we don’t go to Bally’s), though: why would you wear flip-flops while working with free weights?

Barb | 06.07.2007 | 5:58 AM

I actually have a Bally membership (I like being able to go to multiple locations) and never got the impression that it was a meat market. Maybe certain locations are like that. But anyway, I recently started hearing announcements that “proper attire” was required, and they specifically excluded flip flops and jeans. Who the hell wears that stuff to a gym?

But wait, who cares if they wear jeans or not? Is it a safety issue of some kind??

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.07.2007 | 6:51 AM

The Bally’s in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are DEFINITELY meat markets. I do like that you can go to any location, but around here it’s just too icky.

Flip-flops I could definitely see as a safety issue. I mean, I broke a toe just by dropping my combination lock on it—could you imagine what could happen if you dropped even a 5-lb. plate on your foot? Ouch!

Jeans? I don’t know, but why would anyone work out in jeans? At the gym we go to some guys wear cargo shorts. worried Maybe it’s so people can tell they’re straight? LOL

Barb | 06.07.2007 | 6:56 AM

Wow, how big was the lock? That must’ve hurt like a mofo!

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.07.2007 | 7:06 AM

Just a regular combo like—the one I use at the gym, ironically. It hurt, but if I hadn’t already broken a toe in the past, I wouldn’t have thought much about it. But I recognized the specific type of pain and went to the doctor right away instead of waiting 2 weeks for the “soreness” to go away!

Barb | 06.07.2007 | 7:08 AM

*lock

Barb | 06.07.2007 | 7:09 AM

I didn’t know that broken toes didn’t hurt that much… I’ve mashed my pinky toe on enough corners to think it might have been broken, but it usually stopped hurting after an hour. Lucky for me I have bones filled with cement. grin

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.07.2007 | 7:14 AM

Well, it probably depends on how you break it. The first time was when I was still in martial arts learning to kick, and all I kicked was a padded thingy, but I didn’t do the kick properly. I never even noticed it ‘til much later.
