It is a lot of green… by main component, do you mean the header?
No, I mean the body of the site - where you have the opaque box and the text right now.
Hmm, maybe I can have bullet points that are some kind of non-green color. I’ll have to think about it some more.
The old splash page looks like you are soliciting work as an illustrator of children’s literature. Not that that’s bad but it is not your target audience. The new page looks more professional and business-like. If you want to solicit professional web-design work, your page should look like an example of your work. I think the new design is a good start.
That’s exactly what I was thinking too.
There are two phenomena which piss me off on websites: if the pages dont scale properly (when they stick to one side of the browser rather than centering themselves, or when the frames dont line up properly creating a surreal staggered effect… like Facebook in the early days), and when the subdomains/directories don’t make any sense (eg AVG Free edition is free.gridoft.com, but windows defender is nowhere near as easy as defender.windows.com or windowsdefender.microsoft.com or windows.com/defender or something equally logical)
But on the whole, the new site is much better. It looks more like a web site and less like a childs drawing of a website
PS. Did you know that you are the first result if you Google “pennydragon” and the second result if you Google “penny dragon”? Well if you didn’t, you do now…
Well if anyone needs to find my website who didn’t have the sense to put pennydragon.com in the url, I’m set!
I agree with you on the website phenomena, they annoy me too. The first version of my site I placed more emphasis on making it resize with the browser and still look more or less the same. (I still can’t believe I made that childish looking site, gah. It was EARLY in my career when I had little graphical ability and before I new about iStockphoto.)
I think you need some other type of image on the main component, just to give another color other than green.
