We love Paul Newman Ranch Dressing. You’re so right - anything gets a flavour boost with a little ranch dressing. I started reading your blog recently, and have become a devoted fan! smile

tfp | 05.26.2006 | 5:42 PM

I’ve never made my own, but I’d love to try! I dip my pizza in ranch, I use Italian on my salads.

Heather | 05.27.2006 | 9:08 AM

You have to get the powder packages of hidden valley and make your own (1 cup mayo, 1 cup milk).  That tastes exactly like restaurant ranch.

The bottled stuff has too much preservatives in it, or something.  Doesn’t taste the same as the packages.

My husband was a line chef for a bit.  He has the BEST ranch dressing recipe.  It tastes better than anything I can buy at the grocery store.  I’m at work now, but I will grab the recipe when I get home and post it here.  smile

Dana | 05.27.2006 | 12:17 PM

TFP, always nice to have a new follower! The Paul Newman one might be good, haven’t tried that one.

Heather, I never understood the dipping of hot wings into ranch, but at least they provide you with a little dip for your pizza!

Adena, really? I think I’ve seen those packets, I’ll have to try it. Would be better than finding all the ingredients to make it from scratch.

Dana, ooh yeah, do post it! Is it simple?

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.27.2006 | 5:04 PM

e-gads woman!  Shelf warm bottled dressing?!?

Marie’s.  You gotta get marie’s.  It’s the bestest!

It’s in the refrigerated section.

Miss Ann Thrope | 05.28.2006 | 8:53 AM

I totally agree you can’t find the stuff that they serve in the restaurants.  I buy the Hidden Valley Ranch powder that you can make into ranch dressing.  You just need the powder, milk, and some real mayo.  Let it chill and it is so yummy

Audi | 05.29.2006 | 1:05 AM

i have learned so much from this post and comments. but above all i learned i heart the way your brain works! hehe

(oh wtf ok i take it all back my submit word is POPOZAO!!!)

ocB | 05.29.2006 | 5:35 AM

*Sigh*
I had never heard anything by Kfed until ocB introduced me to the world of Popozao all because of that one submit word.
I fear I will never be the same again heh.

So thank you wink

Debbie | 05.29.2006 | 6:02 AM

Miss Ann, I never thought to look for dressing in a refrigerated section, maybe I should!

Audi, that’s two votes for the powder. That seems to be the easiest way to make it at home.

ocB an Debbie, I like to mess with people’s brains by throwing in train wrecks right when they think all is well.

I’m right there with you on the whole ranch dressing on everything.  We have this gas station near us called Sheetz that lets you make your own sub or sandwich and you can put almost anything on it.  I love to get a steak sub with lettace, tomato, pickles, salt, pepper, and ranch dressing.  Yum.

modern princess | 05.30.2006 | 5:44 PM

I have it on good authority that Denny’s dressing is made from a buttermilk ranch seasoning packet, real mayo, and water. That’s it.
If you can’t find a packet, I’d look for a buttermilk ranch in a bottle. IME that’s what most restaurants are using.

Psychobabble | 05.31.2006 | 11:48 AM

I used to work at Denny’s and ours used hidden valley ranch.  We’d mix the dry packet with buttermilk and mayo.

Diane | 05.31.2006 | 1:55 PM

Ooh is that so?  Well then, Ima hafta try this ranch packet really soon!!

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.31.2006 | 2:40 PM

Chris is a ranch fanatic too, but he prefers the Hidden Valley ranch dip packets.  These ones are mixed with 16oz of sour cream.  It is thicker, and better for dipping, but also works really well as a salad dressing.

Samantha | 05.31.2006 | 5:59 PM

We’ve used those, they’re pretty good! The dressing packets must be equally good.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.31.2006 | 9:41 PM

Ok guys. When it come to Denny’s ranch not all locations are created equall. Some do utilize HVR packets and buttermilk, which is basically what you can buy in the stores. I think the Denny’s ranch that most people fall in love with is the ranch made from a powder that is mixed only with mayo and water. Not sure if it is still HVR powder mix, but I have asked and I know it is proprietary. If HVR makes the mix, they don’t want anybody to know, and neither does Denny’s. Also I have noticed that Lone Star Steak House ranch is fairly close to Denny’s.
