I agree with just doing what it is you are putting off. I know that when I do that, it always makes me feel better about it, and I feel that accomplishment when I finish it up, and then I want to finish up more stuff. It sounds simple, but I know it’s hard to make that first step out of procrastinationvillle.

Sounds a lot like a “sign” to me. Life is too short to be unhappy/unmotivated.

Maybe it is a way for you to get into something better. Maybe the opportunity will present itself in the mean time.

I think motivation is over-rated. It lasts a very short time and takes up more time and energy than it produces.

I say do what you need to do to get it over with. I used to make a daily list when I worked in corporate America. Each “thing” I crossed off was one “thing” closer to the end of the day or project, so I could SEE what I was getting accomplished.

Mia, I just wish it was more effective. We have an “inbox” where requests are put in. I get myself to do one and yay it’s done, but look, there’s another one, just as boring as the first one.

Rural Lesbian, I’m starting to become more active in my job search. I can’t just sit around and wait for something to happen. Nothing job-related ever falls into my lap. I have no influential friends. rasberry

Unknown, my motivation actually managed to last an entire year here, and it produced a fairly high level of productivity. When I lost that motivation, my boss noticed a signifant drop in my output. It was noted in my yearly review. grimace It isn’t overrated, but it definitely is easy to lose.

Working from home, I find my self going through this alot… Till I realize that it’s the 1st right around the corner and rent is due...Then I force my self to get motivated to get the $ to pay otherwise i’ll sitting on the corner with all my stuff and my son thinking...damn if i was just a lil more self motivated lol

Working from home definitely requires a different kind of motivation. There are so many distractions that compete. At least when you’re stuck at an office and you think, “I’d rather be ___,” those distractions are not readily available. Well, except for blogging, heehee.

I am thankful that my son is now back in school for this reason alone. I hardly made any money this summer cause I never had any time alone to concentrate on work. As much as I love him and love him wanting to give me hugs and kisses all the time. It was very distracting.. And I’m the kind of person who has to have music while working and he would want to watch tv.... TV is so distracting to me…

Heather B | 08.21.2007 | 7:10 PM

I agree, TV is very distracting. The only time I can watch it while working is if what I’m working on doesn’t require much thinking.

You’re unmotivated because you don’t like that stinkin’ place you’re working at.
Take a leap, babe.
Easier said than done, I know. I tend to stay way past the expiry date also.

Heh, I think I’m starting to smell like moldy cheese…

Fwee! Congrats on her getting laid off! I swear it has been the best thing in the world for me...not my wallet though...but it is alright, too.

Now as for your motivation, I agree with looking for something else that you enjoy. Maybe even taking a slight paycut wouldn’t be so bad if you were in a job that had potential for advancement.

Oh and if you find any ‘work-at-home’ jobs that require no skills whatsoever, let me know so I can get one too, k? LOL
