I have this irrational fear of germs. I don’t drink out of glass in restaurants or bars. I will bring my own plastic cups sometimes. I know it’s crazy. I also have a fear of snakes, spiders, and crawly bugs. And I’m afraid to pump gas without holding a wet towlette in my hand to do it.

I can not sleep with the closet door open. It has to be closed all the way.

Angi Dudas | 06.22.2006 | 1:56 PM

That’s kinda freaky-two of my fears are spiders and bugs crawling on me (although like you I’m cool with the paper/cup scooping thing) and SEAWEED!

My sister used to think it was hilarious and I spent most my childhood visits to the beach being chased by my sister and these long green bits of seaweed. I’ve never understood why I fear it though!

I can’t believe there is another person in the world who fears seaweed! Lmao!

I used to have a fear of sleeping facing a window too but thankfully I seem to have grown out of that one now.

I just noticed I’m no longer on the pester list sad

Sarah | 06.22.2006 | 2:25 PM

I saw that Tyra show - I couldn’t believe someone was scared of pennies either.

I am afraid of a lot of things
*cockroaches or any similar bug freak me out completely. Make me cry and everything.

* the closet door has to be shut at all times, especially when I am going to bed. A dark closet = monsters and I am positive I will see eyes gleeming at me if the door is not shut.

* bridges - I worry they will crack and buckle under the weight of all the cars and I will fall into the water.

* deep water - I can deal with beaches, but you’d never get me on a boat. I get claustrophobic just watching anything filmed underwater.

Di | 06.22.2006 | 2:32 PM

Sarah, doh! I think I spring-cleaned a little too carelessly. You weren’t supposed to disappear from there. I’ll fix that. And as for the seaweed, I’m only afraid of the super-long ones in the ocean. If it’s washed up on the beach it’s somehow no longer scary to me. I even remember dragging them around the sand as a kid. Funny huh? And that is a pretty neat coincidence… bugs-n-seaweed.

Angi, I kinda feel weird if I leave the closet open too sometimes. It must be those monsters…

Dana, I think germaphobes have it the worst, because them things are everywhere.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.22.2006 | 2:33 PM

Di, I knew it! It is the monsters!

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.22.2006 | 2:34 PM

I’m terrified of cockroaches because they run very fast and could run onto me - and the scratchy feel of their poky legs freaks me out.

When I was little I wasn’t exactly scared but grossed out by prawns. Their little segmenty bodies grossed me out for some reason, and I simply could not have them in my mouth. Whenever we ate stir-fried veg with little prawns in the dish, I would pick out the prawns and throw them around the room when no one was looking (hard to do, when eating meals with two eagle-eyed older sisters!). My grandma, sweeping the floor later would find these prawns and wonder how the hell they ended up there.

tfp | 06.22.2006 | 3:28 PM

Oh yeah - and that’s what Jac’s “summer job” is - killing cockroaches for me. smile

tfp | 06.22.2006 | 3:31 PM

Im terrified of pool drains…

jessie | 06.22.2006 | 4:37 PM

Oh I remembered one more, I’ve gotten over it now, but not so long boys with red hair used to freak me out. I couldn’t even watch them on TV!

Di | 06.22.2006 | 5:01 PM

bees.

And sleeping with the closet door open. Thank Steven King for THAT one.

mg | 06.22.2006 | 5:13 PM

Boats. I’ve got this weird thing about boats. It’s not so much a fear. It’s kind of a deep unease. You could paddle me out into the middle of a lake, two miles from shore and 100 feet deep, and I’d feel a lot better about swimming back than taking the boat back.

Joefish | 06.22.2006 | 7:44 PM

Fish freak me right out, like really freak me out.
Deep water too, and the weird thing is that I’m a good swimmer. I think mostly it the fish that I can’t see in the deep water.

zoe | 06.22.2006 | 8:19 PM

it’s driving me crazy! Some music idol of mine is actually afraid of antique furniture! WHo is it? My mind is failing and I’m MUCH too young for that!

I used to have an irrational fear of heights—I mean panic attack time. I couldn’t ride glass elevators at all. Ferris wheels are too scarey for me. I still have some fear, but the big panic stuff has quieted down. Now I just fear that Bush will get us into a 3 1/2 year plus quagmire in Iraq—oh, wait. GAHHH

Tara | 06.22.2006 | 8:43 PM

It’s the long bits of seaweed that scare me the most too, but for some reason I fear them when they’re out of the water as well!

woot I’m back on the pester! list woot

Sarah | 06.22.2006 | 11:04 PM

Spiders and Bees. I completely freak out in the presence of both, including the shrieking, running and waving my arms in the air.

Yeah, I’m a girl smile

stephanie | 06.23.2006 | 8:04 AM

I’m terrified of spiders. I can’t even stand to see them on tv.

I’m terrified of heights to the point where I don’t like to stand on a chair. I have panic attacks during pilates when I’m on the reformer doing balancing things.

I’m terrified of flying and of airplanes. I have to be completely drugged to fly. I don’t like to hear airplanes flying over me either.

I’m scared of semi trucks. But that’s because I had to watch an autopsy in college and I got to see what a semi can do to a person.

And I’m scared of germs. I carry purell hand sanitizer with me at all times and I avoid public restrooms as much as possible.

Heather | 06.23.2006 | 8:39 AM

Spiders? Yep. Or hornets. Anything creepy-crawly that can land on me basically.
And I’m with you on the seaweed too. Or anything at all touching me when I’m in the water. I freak right out.

J. | 06.23.2006 | 8:57 AM

Oh gosh that’s wild..yeah seaweed is narsty..I’m scared of it too, but I think it’s because I think my feet will get tangled in it and cause me to drown.

I don’t know why but I freak out if I’m swimming in a lake and the water gets choppy. I used to love playing in the waves, and all that but now I am terrified of them.

Donna | 06.23.2006 | 9:20 AM

TFP, yeah those pokey roach legs skittering across my skin would definitely freak me out too.

Jessie, pool drains? I guess there’s always that chance you could be sucked right in, never to be seen again…

Di, redhead boys used to scare you? LOL

MG, yeah horror movies are responsible for a lot of phobias, I think.

Joe, I love boats! That’s interesting that you’d rather be in the water than on it.

Zoe, you mean those deep-sea fish with the 2-inch teeth and freaky eyes?

Tara, fear of Bush is not reallly an irrational fear. He’s given us plenty of reasons. worried

Sarah, perhaps it’s the thought that maybe, just maybe, the washed-up seaweed could still lunge up and grab you! smile

Stephanie, girly girl! wink I knew girls like you in elementary school. They would be screaming all over the playground running away from a bee and I would just stand there and wait for it to fly away.

Wow Heather… do you get out at all?

J, I don’t think I’d like fish to touch me in the water either, but I probably wouldn’t freak out.

Donna, funny how our fears come and go for no reason.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.23.2006 | 10:04 AM

I am scared of bridges.

TBS is scared of sunflowers. He said he would never be able to run through a field of them.

Nixxie | 06.23.2006 | 10:40 AM

I only have 2 fears and they both are experience type fears. lightning and bridges.

I’m not afraid of other stuff...tho rodents and spiders and snakes creep me out, I’m not afraid of them

Miss Ann Thrope | 06.23.2006 | 10:40 AM

I’m afraid of people. Large crowds, talking one on one to people I don’t know. Parties.

gypsygirl | 06.23.2006 | 10:41 AM

Yes they scared me so bad! I don’t know why either. I went into complete panic mode whenever the Partridge family came on because of Danny’s red hair!

Girls didn’t scare me, just the boys.

Di | 06.23.2006 | 1:02 PM

Well that’s because boys are yucky, Di. cool grin

Gypsygirl, I don’t like parties much either, though lucky for me I don’t fear them.

Nixxie and Miss Ann, bridges seem to be a popular theme. My sweety is afraid to drive over bridges herself.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.23.2006 | 6:42 PM

How about clowns? Yes, I fear clowns, puppets and basicly any large masked figure. I suppose it’s because one of my strongest “senses” is reading body language...by altering one’s face, I lose many of my signs.

Spiders and bugs in general are also pretty high on my list!
