Wow, I wonder what the total price tag was for this wedding!  I think that if you have to take out a loan (much less 3) to pay for it, perhaps you are thinking too big!  After all, you do still have the rest of your lives to pay for.

Unbalanced | 05.30.2006 | 12:19 PM

Well said. I don’t know who they were trying to impress. There are no rich people on either side of the family.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.30.2006 | 12:34 PM

Stop. You’re scaring me. My daughter has started talking about marriage & (ugh) weddings. We’ve already had the “you’re on your own for that” conversation...but she. will. ask. (and probably get...something.) Maybe if I let her have the puppy she’s been asking for, she’ll forget about the guy. hmm.

Deborah | 05.30.2006 | 12:42 PM

What a waste of money!

Karen Lynn | 05.30.2006 | 12:50 PM

That is ridiculous, considering they are not rich. You can have a very nice wedding for much cheaper. For that money they could have a nice down payment on a house! That’s what I would do.

annie | 05.30.2006 | 12:51 PM

Whew!  That’s a shitload amount of money.
I’m saving now for my girls’ college education, but no wedding.  Three loans!?!?

Maggie | 05.30.2006 | 12:57 PM

Deborah, maybe you can put stipulations on the price of her wedding. For example, no more than $___ for the dress.

Karen, my thoughts exactly.

Annie, that’s exactly what I woulda done too.

Maggie, education has a lifetime of benefits. What the hell does a wedding do for you?

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.30.2006 | 1:27 PM

My mother never had a dime for me to go to college.  I’m going to work my ass off to make sure my kids have a college fund.

T. | 05.30.2006 | 3:16 PM

For the amount of money they probably shelled out in TOTAL on that wedding, I’m thinking they probably could’ve BOUGHT a house.

That’s ridiculous.

Friggen elope to Vegas...the outcome is the same, either way.

adena | 05.30.2006 | 3:21 PM

Good for you T! Your kids will thank you.

Adena, ridiculous is right. Definitely should’ve gone for the house instead.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.30.2006 | 3:29 PM

<i>"I do not think dis word means what what you think it does."</i>

Yes, those rich folks are forever thinking up ways to spend that dough!! Memories? Priceless, yo! wink

mg | 05.30.2006 | 4:23 PM

Aye aye aye..a loan..wait three loans? I really quite like the price of my wedding..hahaha.

Donna | 05.30.2006 | 8:42 PM

3 loans??? Craziness! Be in debt for the rest of your life for 1 day? Sheesh

Vixen | 05.30.2006 | 11:49 PM

I honestly don’t know what they were thinking.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.31.2006 | 7:36 AM

Totally incomprehensible to pay that much for something you have no guarantee of holding forever.

YaYa | 05.31.2006 | 8:37 AM

Wow! I can’t believe anyone would take out three loans for one day, thats just mad! big surprise

My parents started a uni fund for me and my sister as soon as we were born practically, although funnily enough as I didn’t go to Uni mine ended up paying for my wedding (which was less than 5 000 GPB/$10 000!). Anyway, I’m doing the same for my kids.

Sarah | 05.31.2006 | 8:37 AM

Yaya, I know, it’s madness, isn’t it??

Sarah, at you had that choice. I don’t their kids (if they have any) will have that choice.

Geeky Dragon Girl | 05.31.2006 | 9:31 AM

That is just under 2 years salary for my broke a$$.

I just could not do it.  I married K and it was beautiful and we spent ....
probably 100 bucks.

Diane | 05.31.2006 | 2:00 PM

Good gawd awmighty.  That’s quite a price tag for a location!  We had ours at our yacht club.  We weren’t charged anything for the space ‘cause we’re members and the food was inexpensive, too.  Whew.  I hope they’re happy with the money they wasted. sad

Kentucky Girl | 05.31.2006 | 8:30 PM

Wedding #1 for CP:  Lavish location in Long Island.  Flowers by the hundreds and a gown that cost enough for a down payment on a home.  322 guests.

Wedding #2 for CP:  Small family affair by a lakeside restaurant.  Champagne brunch.  A dress from Versace for about $700.00.  14 guests.

Wedding #3 for CP:  Bride/groom and bride’s daughter (age 15 at the time).  Both bride and groom in Sweaters and jeans.  Married in a small unpainted room in the courthouse.  4 people present, including the judge.

Third time was the charm...and oy, the money we saved!

CP.

I’m all about having a big fancy wedding but I’m also all about a big fat keg party in somone’s back yard and doing everything myself (yay being krafty).

stoopidgirl | 05.31.2006 | 10:45 PM

i think its insane what people are willing to pay for a wedding and usually just translates as lack of imagination. when i got married (just over a year ago) it cost about £6,000/ $11,000 all in (which was a strech for our families as it was) and our wedding was beautiful - if i do say so myself! we had around 50 guest for the service and 100 for the evening. my dress cost £100 from ebay (gorgeous vintage 50’s prom dress), our venue (an incredible glass walled penthouse room with a view of edinburgh castle) was £600 for the day and our party was held at my parents house. the event was <b>both</b> ‘fancy’ and cheap (ish) - it <i>is</i> possible! smile

marilyn's shampoo | 06.01.2006 | 7:21 AM

Diane, that is the way to go!

KG, ooh a yacht club! Do you have to have a yacth to join? smile

CP, I can’t imagine anyone (normal) being able to do three lavish weddings! I’m glad the third time is sticking.

Stoopidgirl, I like krafty folks. Them’s smart people. You can have nice things without the painful price tag.

Marilyn, I’d be too paranoid to hold any event in a glass-walled penthouse! All you need is one guest just drunk enough to…

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.01.2006 | 7:49 AM

I think that’s just crazy everytime I hear of huge weddings like that where people go in to debt.  Wow.  Unless they were hoping they’d make the money back in gifts?  LOL.

J. | 06.01.2006 | 11:03 AM

That’s just crazy! If you have the money to spend that much then spend that much but don’t take out ONE loan let alone THREE! Its just insane! People focus too much one getting married when they should focus on being married, you are starting a life together, take out a loan for a car or a house but not a wedding.  A friend of mine just got engaged and the ring cost $17,000! It just seems like such a waste of money.

Carolyn | 06.01.2006 | 10:30 PM

J, the family on both sides is NOT rich by any means. They’ll be lucky to get back even 1/10th of the value in gifts.

Carolyn, I’d rather have a new car over that ring. That’s insane!

Geeky Dragon Girl | 06.02.2006 | 10:19 AM

i am so with you on this.
total waste of money.

weese | 06.02.2006 | 12:20 PM

lol...well, no you don’t have to own a yacht.  You don’t even have to own a row boat.  We have a boat though.  Not a big, fancy yacht.  I did find one that I wanted at the boat show a few years back.  It wasn’t the most expensive one...only 800K.  I dunno why Mr. Kentucky wouldn’t buy it.  waiting

Kentucky Girl | 06.02.2006 | 3:42 PM

Oh, only 800K? Well heck I’ll buy that one right now!
