Oh Gawd, one of my gf’s is like that too. Movies, books and music ... nothing is safe. Snob is an understatement.
It’s fun to get her going sometimes though. Especially with the chick flicks I watch with daughter. She literally cringes.
I think Charlize Theron is stunningly gorgeous.
I thought Aeon Flux kinda sucked. But I liked it anyway. I even bought a copy.
I know what you mean about movie snobs, but I think sometimes I fall unconciously into the book snob category. Maybe because I took such verbal snobbery for reading romances.
And you’re right Charlize Theron is hot! I;ve wondered myself if I should put AE on my Netflix list…
You should Shelly! Do it, DO IT! Some of the plot points were a little weird, but the visual effects are awesome and I quite enjoyed the story.
Di, I agree, snobs feel superior to everything and as a result make you feel inferior for liking anything that isn’t up to their weird standards.
Joe, I agree it wasn’t one of the best movies I’ve seen, but it certainly didn’t merit an “Oh god” response. It’s a likeable movie.
J, it’s fun to drag a snob into a chick flick, isn’t it? They may feel superior, but they still get dragged along by the mob.
Oddly....a lot of the movies the critics dislike I seem to like. Go figure huh?
I think the exact same thing Mike! If critics hate a movie, then I’ll generally like it. Conversely the more awards a movie wins the more likely it is the movie will bore me to death. Critics get paid for being snobs.
Just for the record I liked Aeon Flux AND I like to watch independent films and foreign films (non-Hollywood, not necessarily big budget). I like them all ... I could care less if you have seen some of the strange movies I’ve seen or not ... I certainly wouldn’t go on about it.
Just in case you are interested though ... I loved Run Lola Run
Independent films usually suck. Just my humble opinion though. Aeon Flux isn’t my thing but I love Charlize. She’s absolutely stunning. I loved The Ciders House Rules. It was filmed near where I live.
I haven’t seen Aeon Flux but people always seem to turn ‘movie snob’ on me when I tell them one of my favourite chick flicks is Legally Blonde.
I think it goes great with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s!
Sarah, Legallly Blonde is one of my all-time favorite movies!
T, Charlize is fairly amazing, especially how she can be so completely different in each role, especially Monster.
Pusher I remember Run Lola Run, it wasn’t bad for an independent film. I actually have the soundtrack.
I want to see AE, I have a hard time pronouncing it, but I definitely want to see it. I don’t care what kind of reviews it got or who liked it and who didn’t. I want to see it. But then again I want to see Stick It too. Hehehe, at least my 13 year old will see that one with me.
Sounds like you have great taste GDG!
Oh lawd, you have no idea the amount of movie snobs I encounter here. Jesus. Um, if this is your one true talent, god help you. Movies are supposed to be subjective. That’s the whole point! There is something for everyone.
I must sadly say that I, at one time, snubbed my nose at Aeon Flux, but after actually seeing it, just for a few seconds during a soda run while boyfriend and friends were watching it, I got sucked into it and loved it. Since, I’ve learned to watch before opening my big mouth
Oh, I found your site through a blog renting, but I can’t remember who,
And may I say the “I’m not a bot” word fits very well,
.
tell him thhat AE was directed by Karyn Kusama, John Sales’ ex-assistant and the director of GIRLFIGHT, the movie that launched Michelle Rodrigez’s (LOST) career.... boys can be turds
Independent film fanatics are very annoying… I work with an appraiser/actor wanna be who is always going ON AND ON about different movies and no one has ever heard of them and he gets so offended that we are so “un-movie-educated”
