You shouldn’t rely on the Red Cross (or whomever) to find any problem with your blood. No test is 100% accurate and sometimes there are both false positives and false negatives. The Red Cross tests are intended to be the last line of defense, not the first.

I agree with Joe. I would go to the doctors and have it done. It does suck to pay whatever insurance doesn’t but in the end you will feel better for doing it that way. smile

Giving blood is good...because they always have orange juice, cookies and/or donuts after.

If I actually thought I had any form of hepatitis I wouldn’t rely on a blood drive to find it myself.

I have A- blood so they love me.  They let you lay there as long as you want and give you stuff (juice, cookies) to help bring your blood sugar up.  Sometimes you get t-shirt or bumperstickers!

I have a couple of “gallons” badges but that big ass needle scares the shit out of me even still...and i’m not afraid of needles!

Go to the doc for the tests.  give blood to help some poor little kid with cancer.

I’m with the rest - you need bonafide Doc tests.

I can’t give blood because of the Crohn’s Disease.  It makes me feel guilty, regardless.

IF you look like you’re going to pass out, the nice people that are part of the blood-donor thing will treat you like gold - get you a cold compress, feed you sugar candies/juice, and generally cluck over you like mother hens.

And yes, I am speaking from personal experience… Trust me, it’s not that bad.

From a medical standpoint, I have to agree with the others. The Red Cross tests are pretty good but shouldn’t be your first way to screen your blood. The first screening test before u give blood doesn’t even cover alot, it’s not until they get ur blood to the lab that they really screen. Your doc should do that.

Besides, imagine u getting all amped up to give blood and then they reject you because something does show up? At least if you have a proper lab report first you can know and not even stress about it---just my 2cents.

All right it’s decided. After talking to my sweety about this some more, I’m dropping the blood donation idea. Especially after she informed me that it’s a big honkin’ horse needle they’ll be stickin’ into me, not the usual one used to draw blood for tests. I’ll make an appointment with the doc, likely when it’s time to do that dreaded yearly physical. May as well get stuck in two places while I’m there.

Definitely, that needle is huge. It’s like a steel garden hose.

Ok, I’m exaggerating. A little.
