That’s all??? So basically it’s like crashing a party. Chuh, all that curiosity and the answer was so simple. Thanks wench.
All other commenters, feel free to point and make fun. I can take it.
Actually I didn’t know either
*points anyway* ^_^
Just substitute the word impromptu for pickup pumpkin.
I wouldn’t have a clue. I once thought a “slapshot” was basketball.
..and here i thought it was something to do with pick-up sticks.
Hey yeah! What about pick up sticks? Now there’s a real pickup game!
I am starting to get the ‘live under a rock’ tagline.
pickup games are fun; you never know how good (or how bad) everyone else is.
I’ve Googled this and come up with nothing, but for some reason, pick-up hockey games are called rat hockey. No clue why. Also, even though anyone can drop in and play, most pick-up games are scheduled at specific days and times wherever they take place.
For example, at my local rink, there’s rat (or pick-up) hockey on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. At the gym where my husband plays pick-up basketball, they’re scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Hope that helps!
One other thing--most players in pick-up games consist of men. So even if you were a female basketball (or other sport) player in college or something, depending on the group of guys, they may not let you have any playing time. Or very little. Fortunately, the guys I play with aren’t a bunch of show-off assholes.
It was just passing curiosity as to what it meant. That was actually more info than I needed, but it was helpful nontheless and I do appreciate it!
Sorry--it’s the former professor in me. TMI, you know.
It’s when someone’s playing a game, and you just join in.
