The art of management seems to have died. One of management’s jobs is to keep extending responsibilities to subordinates but to be available if they find themselves in over their heads. Look for Robert Townsend’s great book “Up the Organization” to see how profitable businesses should be run.

I actually read that book. Good advice, unfortunately none of it is followed here. Maybe I should put a copy of it on the CEO’s desk.

I think I may have recommended Townsend’s book before. Keep it in mind if you ever find yourself in a supervisory position. Given respect and encouragement, people will push themselves far harder than you or I ever could. It worked for me.
