Can a gate be sexy?

We finally did it!  We got the iron gate, yippeee!  First of all, here’s the old gate we had:

This one didn’t look bad. It was clean and looked nice with the white trim of the house. However it was a little wobbly and nearly every board is starting to crack from the bottom up. Worst of all, it was noisy. Our bedroom window has a perfect view of the gate, and every time one of the renters goes in and out we clearly hear the clank of the gate opening and closing. Very irritating, especially when it’s like 2am.

So out goes the old gate and in comes the new, sexy one:

The gate guy also let us choose which pointy thing to put at the top. We most definitely wanted pointy things because part of the reason to get this iron gate was to discourage climbing by any possible drug-dealing boyfriends our renters might have. (Go back a few posts if you don’t know what I’m talking about.) I saw this one and it reminded me of a spearhead of some kind. I didn’t care much for the overly ornate fancy ones, I’m more about simple lines and curves.

Okay, maybe you wouldn’t call this gate (or any gate) sexy, but it’s beautiful to us. And best of all? It is quiet. Even if you slam it, it’s still half the volume of the old gate being closed as quietly as possible. It’s amazing. It’s wonderful. And the way the gate never bothers us anymore when it opens and closes… the sultry way it latches shut without so much as a squeak… yeah, it’s sexy.
