Speaking of the shortbus

I used to ride one. I can see all those looks of sudden insight, “It all makes sense now!” tongue rolleye Well phooey on you. Yes I was a shortbus rider. In kindergarten. Maybe even first grade too. No I did not drool nor did I wear a helmet, thank you very much.

My parents, for some weirdo unknown reason, decided to move to some little mountain town for a couple years. There weren’t any beautiful forests or deer or anything. It was incredibly dry and rocky. Our neighborhood didn’t even have paved roads yet! The postal service didn’t even think it was worth going into the neighborhood. All the mailboxes were lined up at the entrance of the dirt road. This also served as the bus stop where the school kids stood around. There were about 3 of us. No sense in sending a real bus through the treacherous winding roads to get there, a shortbus was plenty.

So yeah, it wasn’t that kind of a shortbus. It was a short school bus. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! Now go visit my renter before I put YOU on a shortbus!

I just made myself giggle

I have a folder called “Shorcuts”. I glanced at it quickly just now and thought it said “Shortbus”. I wonder, what would I keep in a folder called Shortbus?  LOL

Bloody fantastic

I’ve never given blood. Not because I don’t believe in it, believe me I’m a believer of helping people whenever possible. But mostly because I’m a big clucking chicken. I’m squeamish around needles and excessive blood. (Some blood is fine, but I can’t deal with gory movies or blood raining down like that dance club scene in Blade. Not that I expect the blood bank to have blood raining down from the sprinklers, but… nevermind.) Not only that, I’ve passed out on a couple of occasions. Once due to low blood sugar and another because of I don’t know what. Likely blood-related as well because I had a raging sunburn all along the backs of my legs that morning and I’m sure there was a lot of blood busy with that instead of feeding my brain.

So anyway, for those reasons I’ve never even considered giving blood. Well during my last visit to my mom, she mentioned that I should get tested for Hepatitis since she had Hepatitis B. She said the easiest way to get tested is to give blood. They do an exstensive battery of tests to make sure your blood is safe. They would be able to detect anything I have that might be abnormal. Well, in my blood anyway. There’s no accounting for what’s abnormal in my head!

As luck would have it, the following week a blood drive was announced in my office building.  They’ll be here next week.  I signed up. I’m apprehensive. I get dizzy just standing up too fast, how on earth am I going to give blood and still be able to walk back to my desk? Or drive home?? Then after about two minutes of apprehension, logic creeps in and reminds me that they’re not about to let someone give blood who shouldn’t.  If my blood pressure is too low, they’ll say no.  It’s as simple as that, right? Right??

I could always just go to the doctor’s office and have them draw blood and do the tests, but I’d have to pay the $20 copay AND whatever portion of the lab fees that my insurance doesn’t cover. Screw that. I’ll put up with my cowardice and apprehension if I can save $50.  Or more. Who knows how much they’d charge me. I hate PPOs and their “we’ll cover 80% of this cost and 50% of that cost”. What the hell? I’m paying more for this plan than the other, shouldn’t I be paying less? Shouldn’t they cover all my costs? I hate insurance companies. Fucking bloodsuckers.

Ha!  Maybe I should have them draw the blood for me!

Whut up yo!

If you recall one of my previous posts, I occasionally like to get in touch with my “inner gangsta” by bumping to a bit of hip hop and rap.  This usually happens in my car because the bass sounds oh so good. I don’t listen to a whole lot of rap, but the ones that have a catchy rhythm or hook (or whatever you call it) often reel me in. A lot of Snoop Dogg songs have the potential to reel me in, however the guy’s voice is so… I don’t know how to describe it, greasy? Oily? Creepy? It just really annoys me and I usually can’t stand the songs no matter how catchy.

Anyway, it’s time for all o’ y’all to get down and dirty wit yo bad selves. Da ghetto is in da house yo! Fo shizzle!

*Ahem* Sorry if I scared you. Here are a sampling of songs I like to crank up and bump to, no matter how uncool I actually am…

(Edit: These links have expired since a week has passed. Can’t be slow I tell ya! If you really want ‘em feel free to email me about it.)

Bubba Sparxxx - Heat It Up
Fergie - London Bridge
Notorious BIG - Hypnotize
Nelly Furtado featuring Timberland - Promiscuous Girl
Daddy Yankee - Rompe (this is more Reggaeton than hip hop or rap, but I include it in my “badass gangsta shit” anyway)
Stereo MCs - Elevate My Mind (Definitely not new, but I never heard it when I was new, so it’s fairly new to me. I don’t even know if it’s hip hop or what, but I love this one!)
